Butte aux Cailles



 

Butte-aux-Cailles - a part of Paris that lacks chain stores and still has cobblestone streets and maintains that old world Paris ambiance, located in the 13th! Historically, a working class section of Paris, the area remains one of the really quaint sections of Paris. Today, boutiques, colorful restaurants, inviting cafés make up the many “nooks” of Butte-aux-Cailles.










The area is hilly and offers lovely views, steep inclines and numerous variations in architecture featuring low roofed houses and art nouveau architecture.


 

An interesting square is Place Paul Verlaine. The well is a source of natural spring water, visitors can still fill their water bottles.


 

Dine at le Temps des Cerises restaurant. 18, rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles. A restaurants where you can still eat on a budget and be one of the locals.


 

Chez Gladines is another local institution, inexpensive, often crowded 30, rue des Cinq Diamants.

 
Passage Barrault, which time seems to have stopped a hundred years ago.


 

The Butte-aux-Cailles is well-known for its street art and attracts world travellers who photograph the graffiti.

How to get to there: At metro Corvisart take stairs leading to rue Eugène-Atget. Rue Jonas will be on your right bringing you to rue des Cinq-Diamants leading directly to rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles.
