Petite Paris May Newsletter

It must be a new moon or something equally unusual and phenomenal because our May Newsletter is out early! :) Weird! Perhaps its just the new brand of coffee I've been overdosing on that has sped up my typing skills. Anyway here it is; all the latest Petite news and specials (some you may have seen here before), mothers day gift ideas and more zen tips for Paris since the last were so popular. we're now on a mission to find more new and unique things to do in Paris; off the very beaten track! Starting with the book 'Quiet Corners of Paris' which is featured in the Newsletter :) enjoy!

Zen things in Paris

Bonsoir everyone :)

When it comes to Paris, we already know the usual recommendations. We know the rule is Laduree for tea.  Pierre Herme for Macaroons. Coffee at Cafe de Flore. Or at Lipp Or at Deux Magots.  We know that a visit to the Louvre is a must see. Eiffel. Piere Lachaise. And we know all about the Batobus river boat tours. The Moulin Rouge. and the Opera. And these are all great, bien sur...

But how about some new and refreshing recommendations form our friend and fellow Paris lover, the Zen Guy who runs a blog about Zen Activities to do in Paris, Zen Tour packages, Parisian tasting Chocolate notes amongst other Zen things (yoga, inspirational travel stories...) Such as:

Hot mint tea in the tea room at Mosque de Paris (2 Euros) (above).

Tickets to a Church concert, e.g. a piano soloist at St Julien de Pauvre or Vivaldi at Ste Chapelle or La Madeline. Free organ recitals at Ste. Eustache church at 5:30pm Sundays

An overview of Paris in a chauffer-driven vintage Citroen instead of a tour bus.

A visit to Sadaharu Aoki – This Japanese chocolate master has incorporated flavors from his country of origin such as ganache of Matcha tea & Wasabi into his chocolate.

Saint Honoré Paris Chocolats – a new chocolate shop offering award winning chocolate that contains less sugar, with a great selection of high-quality Bordeaux wines from smaller wine vintners that pair best with chocolate.

Visit Gosselin – Patisserie to the Prime Minister, best baguette in France
And plenty more unique places are listed on the Zen Guys Blog (with a few of the usual recommendations, hey when its good its good and must be mentioned a million times I suppose :) but I really loved that many of these suggestions I had never heard of and have added them to my to see/do/eat list for the next Paris trip!

1 Free night in Paris!

Are you travelling to Paris in January, February or March??

This is our private studio in St Germain des Pres (another new apartment)! Introductory special - stay 6 nights in January, February or March and receive the 7th night free!!

It's SO new, its not on the website yet. Please email for availability on info@petitepr.com.au

Marie-Françoise is one of our most experienced hosts, receiving people at her B&Bs for over 15 years. In the heart of Paris, in the left bank, close to the Jardin des Plantes, Marie Francoise offers this one room private studio in addition to her other ‘hosted apartments’ nearby; Simplicity and functionality are the focus of this studio apartment, everything you need you will find!

Located of the ground floor of a building built in 1890, this apartment is quiet and well lit, opening on an inner paved yard, with plants and flowers.

 The bedroom area
Equipped with a new convertible sofa of good quality (140X190cm), two bedside tables, a large wardrobe, shelves, a table and chairs as well as information on Paris.

If you travel with a friend, the bed can be prepared in the Scandinavian style with two quilts.

The shower room
Equipped with a wash basin, a shower and toilets, bath products, bath towels and a hair dryer.

 The kitchen area
Equipped with a sink, a small refrigerator, a toaster, two hot plates and a micro wave, an electric kettle equipped with a filter for coffee, the necessary kitchen crockery and first need food such as mineral water, salt, pepper, mustard, oil, vinegar, rice, pasta.

Breakfast
Marie-Françoise invites you to come to her own home for your first breakfast, so that she can answer all your questions on Paris and the organization of your stay.

For the following mornings, breakfast is not served by Marie-Françoise (except if other arrangements have been agreed before arrival for other breakfasts at Marie-Françoise’s home, according to her availability and with an additional cost).

Breakfast main ingredients, such as coffee, tea, chocolate, milk, fruit juices, cereals, jams, honey, yogurts, eggs, soft cheese, ham, cake, toasts. etc will be let at your disposal in the kitchen in large quantities, enough for all your stay.

Only the fresh baguette and croissants will be missing, which you can buy at the bakery close to the apartment. Marie-Françoise will recommend the best baker and will leave a fresh baguette for your first breakfast.

What Sunday Mornings are Made for...

Sunday spring mornings in Paris are too perfect to miss. Most of the city is asleep after those wild Saturday nights. The light is soft, and the places that will soon be overrun with footsteps … are empty. Pure and quiet!

Walking down quiet streets and where the early morning light is magic - as though its warming the earth

 Enjoying le jardin tuileries
Or le Jardin Luxembourg

Chocolates and sweets in bed aka Breakfast

a moment to yourself on any parc bench

catching the metro at the dead early hours where for once there are no people about is a rare and amazing thing.

Getting a dose of mind body and soul therapy at one of the Paris perfect parcs

Queuing for Bread

Being the first to buy the freshest baguette for the day

a stroll or light jog along the banks of the seine

its these magic hours where the few people who are out all seem to be characters from some bohemian novel. Some are still living Saturday night, stopped in time wherever they were when their body or mind hit that invisible wall. (Some never even saw the wall. They drank their way through it.) Some are the “early birds,” catching those worms … or collecting those coins in the fountain. And some are just so darn perky (singing out loud as their jogging feet make a gravel rhythm in the gardens) that they make you thankful you’re noctilien

Riding a Velib over the bridges of Paris

Tossing or collecting? Coins at the fountain - place des vosges

Staring out your window at Paris buildings

more sunlit walking

more velib bike riding down quiet, not yet awake, streets!

Having a coffee at Rue Montergueil before anyone else is there

 more time to yourself

getting to the best boulangerie in paris and queuing for more bread :)

taking the bus instead of the metro - SEE the city!

more walking (im a walker can you tell hehe)
 enjoying a view across paris

Strolling through village like neighbourhoods known as 'la campagne' (little street and utterly Parisian neighbourhoods you would not know) - this is Rue Siegfried in the 20th...

Breakfast Feasts

Lingering around your Petite Paris Apartment for longer than you should, watching the world unfold below!

1+1 = 2 Paris apartments

The second new Paris apartment on our growing website www.petiteparis.com.au is an extremely rare and quiet oasis in the 14th arrondissement - an area of Paris that has kept its old world authenticity and charm sans tourists...well almost! :)

As a huge cinema fanatic your host offers you this B&B apartment decorated with cinema memorabilia throughout and a huge DVD library. A very uniquely decorated home, particularly the kitchen (a funny collection of metallic boxes and kitchen appliances from the 1950s).

The guest room (with double bed) is separate to the hosts section of the home and therefore offers much privacy and independence. From the bedroom you have direct access to your private bathroom.
It also opens out onto a lovely quiet patio! Double doors evoke the memory of this former stable where the horses that would draw the hearses to Montparnasse cemetary once lived.

Rates:
1 person: 110euro per night
2 persons: 119euro per night
